Background

Corpus Christi Community, founded by Mother Teresa, is a community for men with a background of homelessness and substance abuse.

The first residents came to the Corpus Christi Community in 1974 with the buildings being blessed in the presence of Mother Teresa of Calcutta in May 1975.  For many years Corpus Christi was administered by The Jesuits and the Sisters of Mercy and staffed by members of religious orders, lay staff and volunteers.  Very little funding was sought from government agencies and over the years the hundreds of men who have lived here, have offered their services in whatever way they are able to help keep the Corpus Christi viable.  The land and buildings are owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne and leased to Corpus Christi Community Greenvale Inc, which is now receiving government funding and is administered by a Board of Management.
